EVERY DAY CITIZENS RUNNING FOR OFFICE
We are proud to be promoting some amazing everyday citizens who will be running for a variety of offices in the upcoming elections in Chesapeake on May 1, 2018. Each of the following candidates share similar core values.
We are everyday citizens willing to take an active role in advocating for our community by participating in our local government.
We are not affiliated by political party but rather are INDEPENDENT citizens willing to listen to THE PEOPLE not THE PARTY.
We are deeply concerned about the impact that over development is having on our schools, traffic & quality of life.
We want to refocus city resources on revitalization of Chesapeake, school improvements, roads, and public safety.
We believe in protecting and preserving the agricultural heritage of Chesapeake and strongly support our farmers.
We support local small businesses and want to create a culture for them to thrive.
Jo Anne Gallant – Candidate for Mayor
Jo Anne Gallant is both a real estate agent and a licensed appraiser. She is a multi-year Circle of Excellence award winning Realtor making her among the top 10% of Realtors in all of Hampton Roads. Her extensive real estate experience includes several years of property management experience managing government subsidized properties. She has also personally rehabbed several houses in a very hands on manner.
After actively advocating against several proposed developments that she perceived as detrimental to existing neighborhoods, Jo Anne was encouraged to use her industry expertise and run for Mayor. She hopes to encourage builders to incorporate more green building options into future developments. She is advocating for responsible growth in Chesapeake by evaluating the impact that past development has had on our community and proper planning for responsible growth in the future.
David Schleeper – Candidate for City Council – Special Election 2 Year Term
David Schleeper is a life long resident of Chesapeake, Virginia. He is a Professional Engineer and holds his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and his Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering. However, it is the time that he spend on his grandfather’s farm in Chesapeake that has influenced him to become an outspoken advocate for responsible growth and preserving and protecting our agricultural heritage.
Mary Lou Burke is a high school teacher. After earning a B.A. Summa Cum Laude in Latin from the University of Vermont, she received fellowships towards an M.A. in Classics at Tufts University and an M.S.A. in Educational Leadership from East Carolina University.
She is a strong advocate for protecting Chesapeake farmers and successfully led an effort to change city code to allow for backyard hens. Mary Lou started the Facebook group 4 Chesapeake Hens and she continues to share her knowledge and education with the public on both chickens and organic gardening.
